This Week's Monstrosity: How Often Do You Think About the Roman Empire?
Updates
First, some housekeeping: Due to some unforeseen delays in materials (including, uh, the print books!) I am changing the re-release date for Departures to Oct. 24. The good news is that this means you have more time to request your Advance Reader Copy (ARC) and help with the launch! Your ARC will come with a few goodies that will make it worth your while :)
I went down a rabbit hole of SFF content from one of my most admired contemporary SFF authors Charle Jane Anders, former editor of the late but excellent io9, in the Washington Post Books section. I recommend her two latest, highlighting a recent trend of truly excellent monstrosity in speculative fiction and the thin line between utopia and dystopia.
Do you think about the Romans? This seems to be the question of the moment—particularly, how much men think about the Roman empire. Which much be a great deal, because I think about them quite a lot—and the Greeks, because I had an exceptional trip there a few years ago and grew up on D’Aulaires. The Atlantic offers a peek into the brain of one man who thinks about the Romans a lot.
