Sneak Peek: Pages of my Work in Progress, Snow White meets Star Trek
A space opera set n a Lisa-Frank-Goes-Goth planet
Note to Readers
I’ve been deep in a challenging, slow revision for my witchy murdery dark fantasy, but I came up for a quick breather to remember this other draft-in-progress and share a quick look at its opening pages. Please pardon the all-caps placeholders for future thinking to hone key details — you’re seeing a bit of my drafting process in action there.
Aster leaned toward the starry abyss, her hand spread against the cool glass of the the Deus X’s broad windows as if to take a handful of them.
She loved this feeling, as if she stood at the helm of the entire universe, and it was waiting for her to leap and let it swallow her. She hungered to explore every particle of the universe. And finally, after years of ALLIANCE training, she was getting her chance.
“Hey, come back to bed.”
Zig stretched, his lean, strong limbs still relaxed as they tangled through the sheets of his bunk—god, he really was a sight to see.
Aster tugged on her regulation navy tee. “Are you kidding? My first mission as an [ALLIANCE] Captain officially starts in seven minutes.”
“Oh come on, it took you three seconds to slip outta that thing, it can’t take much longer to put it back on. Though you do look great in it.”
The memory of the warmth of Zig’s body pressed against her in the tight bunk was already creating a yearning in her she hadn’t felt since Star Academy, a feeling that made her want to burrow into him as snugly as she could and never let go. As if that could make the mounting pressure her first mission as Captain disappear.
But she couldn’t say any of that—admit her tough, pragmatic, ambitious exterior didn’t go all the way to her core? Never. So she forced herself back to reality.
