Apologies for the weird gap in newsletters.
I know talking about different newsletter applications gets really in the weeds, but the reality is that the shift from the now retired Revue application back to Substack just really killed my momentum and I hit a standstill.
But we’re back and we’re going to stay back. Yeah.
One last bit of newsletter talk: I feel I must address that I’m back on Substack, which I left a while back because of practices at Substack that I didn’t agree with. That whole mess seems to have died down, though without clear resolution as far as I can tell. But with so much turbulence and increased costs around these types of tools, the reality is that I needed something that did not require a paid subscription and that had a clear stability I could count on so I’m not constantly changing my platform (and then losing my momentum). Here we are. I don’t know what else to say except that I feel icky about it but don’t know of another tool that meets these needs.
Okay then. On to the usual stuff.
DEPARTURES is coming to audiobook April 11!
My young adult dystopian novel about sisters and government control and technology’s limitations and ADHD is coming to audiobook! Very, very, very soon!
Tonight, seventeen-year-old Evalee is scheduled to die.
She’s planned her celebration for weeks, and other than leaving her sister Gracelyn behind, she’s ready. The Directorate says this is how it should be, and she trusts them, as all its citizens do. When you purchase during the launch period, I’ll send you an incredible DEPARTURES watchlizard pin, stickers and bookmark, as well as a digital exclusive interview where I talk about writing the novel (pre-recorded from print launch). Just screen capture your receipt and send it to me.
"Departures is a beautifully written, well-paced novel of two sisters’ parallel paths of discovery of the tangle of lies woven by the Directorate..."
— Jade Kerrion, USA Today Bestselling Author
“Equal parts page-turning and thought-provoking, Departures is fantastic. It’s grounded in the best kind of world-building—the kind that delights and disturbs and allows us to see our own world with brand new eyes.”
— Lance Rubin, New York Times Bestselling Author
of Denton Little’s Deathdate and Crying Laughing
“Unputdownable from the very first page.”
—Natalie Cammaratta, Author of Falling & Uprising
